DefensiveDriving.Com’s Wheels in Motion Administration System

Vertex built the original online defensive driving course in 1997, after several Vertex employees acquired speeding tickets at the same time and regretted not being able to take a defensive driving course online. The course was sold to Defensive Driving Online, Ltd. of Houston in 1999 and, as DefensiveDriving.com, became the Web’s premier online driving course. It has gone on to become the most popular online driving course in Texas and one of the most successful online courses ever developed, with over 725,000 students taking its courses in the last eight years. After the sale of the course, Vertex continued to enhance and maintain the course software as well as its hardware and networking components. Vertex also created the administrative, reporting, and fulfillment applications used by DefensiveDriving.com to manage delivery of its course.

In 2004, Defensive Driving Online hired Vertex to create the administrative support software for its new video defensive driving course, Wheels in Motion. Vertex created a browser-based application for managing student registration, enrollment, course tracking, test grading, and certificate completion, as well as inventory, product shipping and tracking, certificate printing, and many other functions– including those handled over the telephone (via an IVR system for which Vertex created a programmable Web service). The course has also been provided to Time Warner and Comcast digital cable subscribers by means of applications written by Vertex.
